Thoughts:
Right off the the bat I really enjoy the aromas of this wine. There’s the typical fruit but it’s in no way overpowering and there is zero alcohol on this wine. For something this big I would have expected a little but not with this wine. It adds a layer to the glass and forms big slow moving legs that take their time before they rejoin the wine in the glass. The body is what you’d expect, it’s a heavy bodied wine. No hiding it.
The fruit hits you right on the first sip. It’s not as big as you might think, but it’s there. Going back it mellows out a good amount and is very enjoyable. The finish is decently soft given the size of this wine. I paired it with a veggie, gluten free, pasta dish (email me if you want more information on the dish) that was covered in a homemade red sauce. This was a perfect pairing. The dish and the wine worked very well together, helping both to smooth out. So if you’re going to pair it, be sure that it’s food that can standup for itself.
Overall I like this bottle. It’s a mid-week drinker for sure but it’s further up the list and is one that I’d considered opening for some friends if they came over for dinner on the weekend. If I see another one on my travels I would pick it up.
Update 1:
Second day trying out this wine showed a bit of a drop off in taste and an increase in the fruit and alcohol. Aromas did die off a little as well, and I would say they didn’t fully match the flavor at this point. I used a vacuum sealer but there are a number of reasons for this including the hot weather we’ve been having and the sealer could be losing it’s usefulness. Still a wine worth trying.
