Wine Tasting...Why Do It?
Wine Tasting…one of the best things you can do, especially if your trying to explore the giant world of wine, and here’s why.
Wine tasting is simply a way to try the product before you buy it. Could you imagine if you could go to a restaurant and try their steak, or steaks, cooked multiple ways before you ordered it? They waiter would laugh at you if you tried to do that. Well, wine tasting is just that, trying the product before you buy it. Not only is this a great idea for the consumer, but it’s a risky one for the winemaker.
So this past weekend I went to a wine tasting at The Tasting Room in Fresno, CA. Ammunition wines was pouring and I had the chance to talk to Andy, the wine maker for Ammunition wines. (Don’t worry, I have a few bottles from Ammunition Wines that I plan to review in the coming weeks.)
The down and dirty is simple, there were 6 wines on the tasting, 2 whites and 4 reds. Now I will admit that I’m not a big fan of whites, however, through tastings I’ve found a few that I enjoyed. Tonight was a standard night when it came to whites, didn’t really drive me to the purchase point.
However, three of the four reds ended up in a case for me to take home. Needless to say I’m not telling you about them now b
ecause I plan to review those three very soon. But the point of the matter is simple. If the winemaker hadn’t done a tasting where he poured his wines and talked about them, I’d never known which ones I actually liked. Since he did pour them, I ended up walking out with six bottles.
Bottom line is simple, if you have a chance to do a tasting, take it, you never know what you may taste that you’ll end up liking.
Cheers!
