How Did This Bottle Show Up: Have had wine from this wine marker before and saw that this bottle was under $30 at a wine bar I go to a lot in the Fresno Area (Vino Grille) and thought why not.
Aromas: As soon as I opened the bottle I was hit with fruit and for this night that made for a nice welcome. Once in the glass it mellows out a bit and there is an undertone of alcohol but it doesn’t coverup the wine.
Visually: It has a very deep rich red color to it. It is a lower alcohol wine so it doesn’t coat the glass as well as some of the other wines we’ve explored lately, but it does form thin fast moving legs.
Thoughts:
This wine is lighter then I thought it would be. From the looks of it I would have put it into a solid medium bodied wine. From the taste I would put it in the light to medium bodied range.
From a taste aspect, the wine creates the whole dry mouth feel but it’s very very short lived (haven’t had a wine like that in a while). There’s no bite on the tip of the tongue as you start to sip and it stays pretty mellow as it pass the midpoint. On the finish there is a little bite and an aftertaste that quickly disappears.
Overall I can see this wine as a midweek drinker but if your having company over and they don't go for the big Napa Cabs this would be a good alternate for them to try. A big positive to this wine is that it is lower in alcohol, so enjoy it without worrying to much about the next morning (just be smart about it). I reviewed one of Mastro Scheidt wines earlier in this series which I enjoyed and would go to over this one first. However, if your into lighter bodied wines I would say give this one a go, I don’t think you would be disappointed.
