Perspective

It’s 2018, and finally here’s the first post. This ones a little different, it's not all wine but a little more about life and how wine has helped uncover a world that I've overlooked for almost 10 years.

I’m sure that you’ve already noticed that the picture doesn’t have any wine in it. This picture was taken on Dec 24th at an attitude of about 30 thousand feet on my way to Texas for Christmas. I played around with some of the edit features and came up with a photo thats completely different then what I normally do, but I really like it. A few friends saw it and enjoyed it, they felt like it brought them peace at uncertain times in their life. (A lot has happened so far in this short year.)

There’s a move to another city on the horizon for me (day job) that will ultimately be a good thing, though a lot of work in the start to get everything moved. Because of that, I decided it was time to get out and explore some of the wineries around me. I didn’t have high hopes for what I would find, but this ended up teaching me a very valuable lesson.

I was driving to Ramos Torres Winery located in a tiny town just outside of Fresno, CA. GPS put me on a half hour drive through the back roads. Not a lot of traffic travel these roads on the week which is good, there's only one lane in each direction. At one point the street wasn’t wide enough for two cars to pass each other.

While driving I passed a lot of farms, had coffee house radio playing on the radio, so needless to say, it was a relaxing drive, but that’s when it hit. If you’ve ever had that moment when you were able to think about something but from a different perspective and it seemed like an entirely new world opened up to you, then you know how I felt.

I realized that because of my dislike for the area I’ve lived in for the last decade, I’ve missed out on an entire world I should have been exploring. While the area around Fresno may not seem to have a lot to offer you'd be surprised to find out how many wineries are around. If you live in the area or are driving through, stop and check out a few of them.

That drive changed my perspective on a lot of things. In particular, the fact that there is an entire world of wine that needs to be explored. But overall, don’t overlook things that are sitting right under your nose simply because there’s something you don’t like, be open minded or you’ll most likely miss out on something truly wonderful.
