So recently I started exploring more wineries around Fresno. This was the first winery I checked out that really changed my mind on the wine that’s starting to come from this region.
The winery is set in what use to be the wine making room. It’s super simple, wood walls, and barrels all around. To me this is a great setting for wine tasting. It’s relaxed, not overly formal and I mean let’s be honest, who doesn’t like hanging out around wine barrels.
I’ve gone back twice now for tastings. Once just to try it out and the second they had live music going on, on a Sunday afternoon. (Later in the year they start doing live music on Fridays and its Family friendly, be sure and check it out.) Both times that I did my tastings, James was pouring. It’s easy to see that he knows his wine, but there is no attitude that goes with it. He very clearly explains the wine to you, explains it in a way that’s easy for anyone to understand regardless of what level they are on. Highly recommend if you get a chance to pick his brain that you do.
So lets talk the wine now. First, they have a wide range of wine. I have not tried the whites so I will be up front about that. Only ones I’ve tried so far have been the reds. And there are some really interesting wines. If you like lighter wines that have a great taste, look to their Very Old Vine Zin. If you like something deep with lots of flavor but doesn’t pack the punch like a lot of wines, look to their Reserve Cab. All their bottles are very reasonably (some around $25) priced so don’t be worried about sticker shock.
The bottom line is really simple. If you’re in the area, go check them out, if your passing through and looking for a quick little stop and some good wine. Here’s a great place to do that.
