2016 Beckmen Vineyard Cab

Being up front, this is a young wine that the winery said could age another 5 plus years and I did not decant this wine before jumping into the tasting, but here’s what I found.
The wine has a super dark color to it which is pretty refreshing because of a lot of the old-world wines that I have been drinking/learning about lately, but don’t worry, you won’t be seeing through this one. It coats the glass very well and has thick slow-moving legs, showing its medium alcohol at 14.5 percent.
Aromas are about what I’d expect from a California cab and the taste is pretty close. It starts off pretty smooth and has a mild middle to it. The finish has a bit of a kick to it with some alcohol taste on it. There is an aftertaste that tends to linger, not a big fan of it, but it’s not a deal breaker.
Ultimately, I would say this is a pretty good wine, though if this is the first bottle you plan to server at this young of an age, you need to let it decant a bit and ensure the food you are serving will stand up to it. Otherwise, if you see it in the store, nab it up and give it a try.
