NV Cabernet by Austin Hope - Part 8 Under $30

Varietal : Cabernet Sauvignon

Year: NV

Area: Paso Robles

ALC %: 14.5%

Price: $20-$25

Website: www.austinhope.com

How Did This Bottle Show Up: Tasted it at a wine shop and really enjoyed it. Actually enjoyed it a little more then the 2018 vintage Cab from Austin, and you can't beat the price.

Visually: Coats the glass very well, creates very slow moving legs and shows off a fairly dark red color.

Aromas: The aromas on this one seem very soft, there is a hint of fruit and alcohol.

Thoughts:

This is one of the reasons that I love to go wine tasting. I stopped by Vintage Reserve Wine in Fresno, CA to do a weekend tasting. It was a lineup that would make any Paso fan happy. For Austin Hope they had the 2018 vintage and this NV wine and two others from Justin. I was surprised by how well this wine did compared to the other 3. Picked up another bottle to see if it's as good as I remember it being.

On the first sip there is a little fruit, but it doesn't really have the sugar that normally goes along with a big Paso Cab. It's not heavy on the tannins though it does dry your mouth out a little but nothing compared to a lot of other wines.

As the sip goes back it starts to show just how smooth it is. Normally there's a little something in the middle of your tongue but this wine glides right over. It hits the back of your mouth and disappears off into the distance. There's a light aftertaste but it quickly disappears. A big positive about this wine is that your mouth does not feel super sugary after taking a sip. A major plus in my book.

Overall this is a very smooth wine and one I would highly recommend picking up if you see it during your travels.

By this point I'm sure you can tell I truly enjoyed this wine. it's a really good bottle for a great price point (No I'm not being paid to say that). I've seen it in two wine shops in Fresno for under $27 (I've also seen it else where for over $40, I don't recommend buying it for that price at all). This is a great mid week drinker but this is also one of those wines that is easy on the pocket book yet still able to be opened at a party and not worry about what people will think. I actually opened the first bottle I had at a party and it was a hit, so I had to go find another bottle. If you see this bottle out and about, go for it.

Update 1:

Day two of enjoying this wine. I've been trying out a new vacuum system that I will review at a later date and stored it in a wine cooler overnight. Once the wine warmed up a little it opened up pretty nicely. The alcohol on the nose died off and the wine seems to have become a little smoother. Still happy with this one.
